Description

The stories in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes appeared in the Strand Magazine before their publication in book form in 1892. Having appeared in A Study in Scarlet (1887) and The Sign of the Four (1890), Sherlock Holmes was already very popular but their publication immortalized him. "A Scandal in Bohemia", a thrilling tale of a beautiful opera singer, was first to appear in the monthly. It was overwhelmingly received as it contained all elements of suspense, observation and deductive reasoning of earlier novels in short story form. It was followed by equally thrilling "The Red-Headed League", "A Case of Identity" and other marvellous stories. Arthur Conan Doyle wrote 56 short stories featuring Sherlock Holmes and his friend and chronicler Dr. John Watson. This volume contains first 12 of them.
